The Var prefecture has banned public access to five massifs in the department as well as two motorway service areas, due to a high risk of fire. Several other areas are also strongly discouraged.
In recent days, access bans in the Var massifs have multiplied to prevent forest fires. This Monday, the prefecture had already issued bans for four massifs.
For Wednesday, August 16, the list of places concerned has been updated. Access is prohibited for the day (traffic and presence) to the Centre-Var, Corniche des Maures, Maures, Haut-Var and Sainte-Baume massifs.
The Var prefecture also advises against going to the massifs of the Iles d’Hyères, the Monts Toulonnais, the Esterel and the Canjuers plateau, where the risk of fire is “severe“. All work is prohibited there, except “agricultural, forestry or general interest work from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.“.
Until mid-September, every day at 7 p.m., the prefecture of the department update a map detailing the massifs affected by regulations or bans.
In addition, the Suvé du Vent motorway service area (in the municipality of Puget-Ville) and the Lauvets service area (in the municipality of Carnoules) are closed to traffic.
