Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Use cigarette electricity known as vape higher because it is often considered safer than regular cigarettes.
Cigarettes are also used by various ages, from teenagers to adults.
Pulmonary specialist, consultant oncology member of the PDPI thoracic oncology working group, Sita Laksmi Andarini said, as of 2020 alone, vape users in Indonesia reached 2.2 million people.
Misunderstandings and advertisements that are shown related to vaping have led to a high number of vape users. In fact, vaping is as dangerous as tobacco cigarettes that have been used for decades.
“No, it cannot prevent lung cancer, we strongly do not recommend the use of vape cigarettes as an effort to avoid lung cancer,” said Sita in the #LungTalk Public Discussion “The Urgency of Lung Cancer Patients to Access Innovative Treatment”, Tuesday (23/11).
Sita was not able to describe the data on lung cancer patients caused by the use of this vape. But, he revealed that vaping also contains nicotine which is addictive and can be addictive. Therefore, various advertisements claiming vaping can be a way to quit smoking are wrong.
“Vape has nicotine, this can create habituation, especially for teenagers who have used vape,” he said.
Therefore, the claim that vaping can prevent lung cancer from smoking is completely unjustified. Citing research results from Komnas PT, vaping is a tool that functions to convert chemical substances into vapor or smoke which is then flowed to the lungs using electricity.
Not only that, the level of nicotine contained in vaping even though a little is as dangerous as that found in regular cigarettes. In certain cases, nicotine poisoning can cause nausea and vomiting, even tremors and seizures.
Not only that, nicotine has also been shown to have an adverse effect on the reproductive process, fetal weight and most e-cigarette products contain nicotine. Although often the content levels are not accurately written on the packaging label.
This was proven through a study conducted in France, and evaluating the nicotine content of electronic cigarette labels. In the study it was found that generally the actual nicotine content is higher than that listed on the label.
“So to avoid lung cancer, especially don’t smoke, don’t use vapes, remind people around you to love your lungs more by not smoking one of them,” he said.
