/ world today news/ Bankya and Gorna Banya can be the heart of the resort business and tourist destinations on a national and global scale with their mineral springs, nature and clean air. Instead, their natural resource is being plundered and their infrastructure is crumbling. This was said by Vanya Grigorova, the candidate for mayor of Sofia and leader of the list of MK “BSP for Bulgaria” at meetings with the public in Bankya and Gorna Banya district.
Candidates for municipal councilors took part in the pre-election meetings, among them the leader of BSP – Sofia Ivan Takov and the candidates for district mayors of Bankya Svetoslav Velkov and of “Ovcha Kupel”, which includes “Gorna Banya” – Hristo Kolev.
Sofia has wealth that she squanders. Bankya can be the heart of the resort business, pointed out Vanya Grigorova: “There are rehabilitation centers here. Finally, the mineral bath was renovated and is working, but from the very beginning, the Metropolitan Municipality, despite having invested millions in its reconstruction, stated that it would look for a concessionaire. Because in the last 30 years this has been the standard behavior of the rulers”.
Public services should not be in the hands of private companies, they should work in the interest of society, emphasized the candidate for mayor and pointed to another key problem resulting from the concession policy – a problem in Bankya as well as in many other parts of the Metropolitan Municipality – garbage collection. She also gave the answer as to why this is happening – an example of this is the former municipal company Chistota Iskar, now Sofekostroy, which currently serves only one area – Krasna Polyana – the one that is making losses. “All the profit-making ones were taken away and put into private hands,” explained Vanya Grigorova.
“Gorna Banya” is another iconic place in Sofia with its priceless mineral springs. From an elite neighborhood and a tourist destination with visitors from all over the world, it has now become one of the places that bear the marks of ruin and oblivion, although it is known for its mineral waters and the cleanest air in Sofia, thanks to a unique interaction between air currents in the skirts of Vitosha.
“Gorna Banya” can be a tourist center, but now it has a crumbling and closed public bathhouse, an abandoned public toilet and broken streets – these are not prerequisites for the development of tourism,” commented Vanya Grigorova and expressed her firm position:
“The mineral water is concessioned for yellow pennies, and the bath is closed. That has to change.”
The candidate for mayor of the “Ovcha Kupel” district, Hristo Kolev, who was born and lives in “Gorna Banya”, addressed the present citizens emotionally: “We look like a poorly maintained village, it hurts me and that will change.” How long shall we endure and why are we still enduring?’
He emphasized that the excuse that nothing depends on the regional mayor is a myth and committed himself:
“I have both the ideas and the solutions and if I have to, I will sleep in the Capital Municipality, but together with the whole team we will win a good budget and things will start to happen.”
“It is extremely important to show the citizens that there is another way to manage the capital. This is possible,” commented Grigorova and added: “Our opponents say that Sofia should become like Vienna, but they forget that the Austrian capital is known as the “Red” Vienna.”
Vanya Grigorova and the other candidates spoke out against the fear of freely expressing your political will.
“There have been no political reservations for a long time. We are no longer serfs and no one has the right to think that our vote is guaranteed to them and if they have money, they can buy power, favor and the next public order,” Vanya Grigorova pointed out and declared: “As free citizens we now we will choose the policy that is in our interest. Not in the interest of a handful of oligarchs and millionaires who already want not just influence, but to hold the tools in their hands to rule us.”
Voting is the only way to change the government, everything else is behind the scenes and drains our public funds. And this leaves our children without good schools, without sports and without culture, and without culture we forget who we are,” she added.
The chairman of BSP – Sofia Ivan Takov thanked all the candidates and especially Vanya Grigorova for the courage to enter this difficult battle. “We are a team and together we will dismantle the Assembly. We will not allow it to be done in Sofia, and with that we will start the dismantling of it at the national level, said Ivan Takov. – Our candidates are the bearers of change in the capital. 33 years we watched how Sofia was being sold off, how a handful of those close to the city government were benefiting at the expense of the citizens. That’s enough! Sofia should be for everyone.”
