People working in the spiritual sphere are protesting against their humiliatingly low wages and demanding more funds for culture and the maintenance and preservation of cultural institutions. Vanya Grigorova joined them in the space in front of the Metropolitan Library to greet them and talk to some of the protesters.
As a person who for years fought for causes in defense of citizens and their right to decent work and fair pay, I cannot help but be here among you now, said Vanya Grigorova in a conversation with the people. “Even more so when it comes to the modern wakers – the people of the spirit who preserve our national identity and awaken us,” she emphasized.
All over the country, those working in libraries, museums, galleries, music and theater institutes, the state archive, in the Bulgarian National Radio, which preserves an invaluable part of our sound cultural heritage, came out for a symbolic protest of the modern alarmists, right on the Day of the People’s Alarmists.
Since 2015, when there was the last serious salary increase in this area, the budget for the maintenance of cultural institutions has been shrinking at the expense of the costs of maintaining the buildings. At the same time, a large part of those working in the sector receive a monthly remuneration close to the minimum wage.
