Vanya Grigorova: Sofia lost BGN 165 million in European funding due to the unfinished RDF-installation for energy production – 2024-02-14 19:09:21

/ world today news/ Sofia lost BGN 165 million in European funding due to the unbuilt RDF waste management facility, and this loss will certainly damage the national budget as well. This was stated by the candidate for mayor of Sofia and leader of the list for municipal councilors of MK “BSP for Bulgaria”, “LEVITSATA!” etc., Vanya Grigorova in front of business representatives.

Vanya Grigorova and the chairman of BSP – Sofia and candidate for municipal council Ivan Takov met and talked with representatives of the Association of Industrial Capital in Bulgaria (AIKB). They presented their main priorities, policies and possible solutions to the most serious problems in the capital, laid down in the vision of the left coalition for governing Sofia.

“The RDF installation is one of the biggest and most serious failures of the Metropolitan Municipality – this should be categorically clear. This is a very serious failure of the party that nominated the mayor,” emphasized Ivan Takov.

He explained that every year the municipality spends between 10 and 20 million BGN to “walk” the RDF around the country and continue to illegally “compact” landfills with it. Part of the produced RDF waste is transported 400-500 km away to be burned, “This “tourism” with garbage must be stopped”, said Vanya Grigorova. She is adamant that the intended location of this installation should be changed as well.

Grigorova pointed to the implementation of true separate garbage collection as key, which will reduce the burden on households after the inevitable change in the recalculation of the garbage fee resulting from the legal changes in 2018.

She said that the solution is to allow separate collection of waste, because much of it is a resource, and to pay only for the part that cannot be recycled.

“Heating” and central heating are of key importance for Sofia – as an effective measure against energy poverty, since according to all analyzes it is the most ecological and energy-saving way of heating”, commented Vanya Grigorova.

AIKB pointed out “Heating – Sofia” as the biggest and most expensive problem of the municipality – with a debt of BGN 2 billion. Every year the subsidy that is provided for the company is of the order of BGN 500 million and represents over 50 % of the total amount allocated to all heating systems in the country, stated the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AIKB Vasil Velev.

Vanya Grigorova and Ivan Takov also commented on other topics in response to the questions – related to the opening of kindergartens and nurseries and a plan to overcome the problem of their lack within 2-3 years, modernization of schools with STEM classrooms and promotion of technical education. They have confirmed that they do not plan to increase local taxes.

“One of the major problems of the Metropolitan Municipality is the lack of project readiness,” Grigorova pointed out.

“We believe that there should be a partnership and correct relations with the regional mayors, regardless of the party that nominated them, and we will work for that,” Vanya Grigorova pointed out. She also expressed her position that the capital’s mayor cannot stand aside from key national issues.

The Board of Directors of AIKB declared readiness for assistance with expertise.
