Vanillaware, which has left a deep impression on game fans with its stubborn 2D graphics, natural animation, and unique directing, has unveiled its new game ‘Unicorn Overlord’ together with Atlus.
Atlus, a Sega subsidiary, announced Unicorn Overlord, a new game developed with Vanillaware, and revealed detailed information through Nintendo Direct on the 14th.
Unicorn Overlord is a title whose teaser was released once in 2019 and has been known as the largest project produced by Vanillaware. At the time, Vanillaware CEO George Kamitani said that the development period would be long for something of this scale and that it would take time to even release it. As he said, game information has been released for the first time in about four years.
This work, which claims to be a new simulation RPG, explores fields with a high degree of freedom and depicts battles against enemies on a relatively freely constructed map instead of a grid divided into squares. Unlike the characters on the field, which are expressed small, the character design in battles and in-game events shows Vanillaware’s unique art design, featuring elongated life-sized characters and small-looking characters.
In particular, the smooth animation and movement that influenced various games was drawn attractively in this work as well. In addition, with the announcement of the game on this day, Korean language support was revealed, and sales of a limited edition including the original limited card game were also announced.
Unicorn Overlord will be released on March 8, 2024 and will be released on PS4, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch.
