Vanguard – the best World War II – Gamebro.cz

This year, too, the relentless struggle of two rivals in the form will ignite Call of Duty a Battlefieldu. One represents the modern age, the other shuffles the history cards of World War II. In today’s review, we’ll go down in history first, since Call of Duty: Vanguard came out before the new Battlefield and thus gains the first small advantage.

I will not go into a long line of the series, as countless parts have already been published, which would put on a separate giant article. Personally, I was a fan of Call of Duty for some other episode Modern Warfarewhich I interspersed with the series Medal of Honoruntil Dice came up with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. After this part, I changed sides, and while I didn’t miss a part of Battlefield, I had already carefully chosen which part to try out in the Call of Duty series, but I didn’t lose so much to any of them.

I mention all this to outline my view of the game, because when I talked to some avid Call of Duty fans, the elements that I enjoyed and liked bothered them. So my view is just experienced passionate player, but not regular warrior series.

The war begins

Developers from Sledgehammer Games promised three main elements. An interesting campaign, the most extensive multiplayer and a reworked zombie mode. I have to admit that all three parts were successful, but even so, some fans will not be completely satisfied.

Previous episode from the same studio called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War he also caught it from the fans. At the same time, it offered a very interesting and entertaining campaign (except for the length) and I personally considered it a fairly successful part. Of the three modern works, the greatest success was recorded Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and I don’t mean the old legendary one, but the new one from 2019.

But back to Vanguard, which in terms of the campaign follows a similar path as Cold War and again offers an interesting but very short gaming experience. Of course, a lot of players will gossip that it’s not according to historical events, as the developers have opted for the ala style Hollywood movie. Others point out that there are too long video sequences between missions and that it is no longer a game, but a feature film.

However the story is compelling, the content of the missions varies, as does the environment. Because slowly each mission takes place elsewhere. The only thing I’m sorry about was that the developers didn’t go against the flow and didn’t offer a longer experience, because it was possible to get much more out of this and everything went more divorced.

The player is thrown into the action from the first minutes. It all starts with attacks a group of disparate and diverse war heroes on the Nazi train and trying to uncover their dark plans. Subsequently, after some events during the campaign, the game returns to the individual heroes using flashbacks. This introduces the players to the individual heroes and shows why these people are in secret special unit.

British Sergeant Arthur Kingsley will take us to Operation Tongand where he will perform as a born leader. With the Russian sniper Polina Petrova, we will look at the Eastern Front and, perhaps, at defense of Stalingrad. Australian Lucas Riggs will take us to Battle of Tobrukwhile American pilot Wade Jackson and I are flying at the Battle of Midway. In the meantime, the story is taking place in the present, so everything blends quickly and thanks to that you can play the story in one breath.

Each of the heroes also has a slightly different ability, which he uses during his view of the past. Maybe Arhur can give commands to his soldiers, and thus lead the direction of attack, or suppress any machine gun nest. It is a pity that we do not enjoy these abilities anymore, because of the already mentioned length of playing time.

A small, action and fun war

We have the story part behind us. She succeeded in a nutshell, but what makes Call of Duty so successful is catchy multiplayer. While Battlefield relies on a sense of freedom and real warfare with all sorts of machines, Call of Duty prefers fast to furious action without exhaling on a much smaller scale.

Vanguard doesn’t change anything significantly here basic principles, so everything is still the same, and that may be a bit of a problem. Since even after ten years and several episodes, nothing much has changed and if you have played any other Call of Duty since the time of the first Modern Warfare, then nothing extra has changed.

But despite that, there are little things that make Vanguard different and even quite entertaining. The first change is that they are not in the game no factions, but only two teams against each other, where each player chooses his operator (there are not that many, so they repeat quite often). Which bothered me a bit, because it doesn’t add much to the players being one team and playing for their faction.

The system of operators is nice, but not to run around the map twenty identical characters, which slightly reduces the overall experience. Although the gradual unlocking of other operators and new skins for the current ones some motivation to keep playing and further along with weapon upgrades, but when the players meet in the initial stages of the game, they are all exactly the same.

On the contrary, what I have to praise a lot are the individual maps, which are of different sizes and offer a decent variety, so everyone will find the favorites, but also the ones that will be cursed. Just you respawny is a bit of hell, the game will easily spit out the enemy in front of your barrel or, conversely, behind your back. Despite that game environment I consider it the best that the new part of the series has to offer.

Game modes do not deviate significantly and we can find all the favorites from Free For All, Team Deathmatch, přes Domination, Kill Confirmed, až po Hardpoint nebo Search and Destroy. Two brand new modes have been added. One fits more to the classic ones with the name Patrolwhen teams try to fight for an ever-moving circle. Points are awarded to a team that has its fighters in place, and the other team tries to take the point and then defend it. This is definitely a very interesting mode, as the main focus of the fight is constantly shifting and it definitely deserves a place among the proven modes.

The second novelty was already available to players who tried the beta version of the game. Champion Hill we can compare it to such a knockout tournament, as players join small teams and gradually knock out and raise money to buy equipment for the next race. The matched couple will definitely enjoy this regime and I can imagine it for them as well sport.

The corpses come to life after the Second World War

Last but not least, I must not forget cooperative regime with zombies, which has also consolidated its place in the Call of Duty series for many years. Zombie mode it is a bit incomplete and is to be gradually expanded. Even so, it is different from what we know from previous parts, as it was already too recombined for some players and it was easy to get lost in it and thus discourage further play.

But even the style used by the developers here is not entirely optimal and experienced players probably won’t have much fun. The game here always starts in the same place, at open square Stalingradwhere you repel zombie attacks, upgrade equipment or acquire weapons. Furthermore, with the help of portals, you get to smaller areas where it is necessary to complete constantly recurring tasks.

Personally, I didn’t like it either exaggerated style of the latest versionsbut this method simply stops having fun very soon. Personally, I miss the classic procedure as in the first Black Ops, where it is necessary to defend against individual waves and gradually uncover other spaces and equipment.

Verdict

Call of Duty: Vanguard is a good job. He is not one of the best, but neither is the worst. The story is engaging and entertaining, just too short. Multiplayer impresses with modes, maps, but the system of operators and the way to upgrade weapons will not entertain everyone. Zombie mode seems a bit unfinished, but its expansion is on the agenda. In terms of graphics on PS5 the game looks fantastic and together with the Dualsense driver’s features, it offers a great experience and engagement. Vanguard definitely amused me more than Call of Duty: WWII.
