Vanessa, the taxi driver who transfers passengers with coronavirus in Buenos Aires

In two weeks, more than 1,300 taxi drivers signed up for the Buenos Aires government program to transport coronavirus patients from hospitals to hotels.

One of them is Vanessa De Lima, 40, who decided to volunteer to continue working with her taxi and, also, as a way to collaborate in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis.

Vanessa is part of the first team of taxi drivers that began work on April 10, in the Febrile Emergency Unit that is next to the main building of the Rivadavia Hospital, in the City of Buenos Aires.

Argentine taxi drivers interested in joining the “Covid-19 passenger transfer service in taxis” must register in an app, from where they are selected.

Those who complete 25 work days per month will receive 60,000 pesos, about 835 euros.

If they work fewer days, they will pay the proportion. Those over 50 years of age or those who are part of a risk group cannot be enrolled.

Before starting to provide this type of service, Vanessa received a course on the care to be taken inside the cabin.

They also gave him personal protective equipment.

In addition, he had to install a protective screen at the expense of the Buenos Aires government of Argentina, a system that isolates the part of the driver from that of the passengers in the rear.

Thus, driver and passenger do not have contact with each other and the interior of the vehicle is protected.

On the other hand, after finishing each service, it is mandatory to take it to a laundry for its total disinfection.
