Vandoorne narrowly misses the pole

By beating Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) in the last qualifying duel in New York, Nick Cassidy (Envision) took pole position.

The Belgian driver is still in contention for the world title in Formula E but he missed his chance to score 3 precious points by taking pole in the first New York E-Prix this weekend.

In the final qualifying phase in the form of duels, it was the Kiwi Cassidy who preceded Vandoorne by 8 thousandths of a second.

Super Formula champion in Japan in 2019, Cassidy has been in the FE for two seasons but is still chasing his first victory.

Vandoorne will try to stop him this evening to approach or overtake the championship leader Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), only qualified in ninth place.

Behind the occupants of the first row, we will find Lucas di Grassi (Venturi) and Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), then Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) and Alexander Sims (Mahindra), the teammate of poleman Robin Frijns (Envision) being flanked by Sam Bird (Jaguar) on the fourth row.

Less success for the DS Techeetah of Antonio Félix da Costa tenth and especially of the title candidate Jean-Eric Vergne relegated to the eighth row in front of the second Porsche of André Lotterer.

The first of the two New York E-Prix takes place this evening with a start at 7 p.m. (French time) to follow live on the channel The Team or delayed on Eurosport in France, as well as on RTBF Auvio in Belgium.
