Vandals attacked the trucks and premises of Restos du Coeur in Wattrelos in the North. The logistics platform serves 40,000 beneficiaries. There will be no meal distribution on Monday.
Scene of desolation at the Restos du Coeur logistics platform in Wattrelos in the suburbs of Lille. The volunteers discovered on Friday afternoon that their twelve trucks, including several refrigerated vehicles, had been vandalized. The windshields were destroyed. The vandals also entered a charity prefab and poured methylated spirits and hydroalcoholic gel on the ground.
It was the site’s alarm that alerted officials. CCTV footage shows two youths degrading the site for around two hours. “They were having fun as if it were a hoax,” President Thierry Sarrazin told The voice of the North. They then escaped through a fence.
This Restos du Coeur logistics platform serves 80 centers around Lille and Douai in the North, which help a total of 40,000 people. On Monday, the distribution of meals cannot take place, which will have a direct impact on the daily lives of 20,000 people.
The charity is organizing a crisis meeting this Sunday to find out how to organize for the coming weeks.
This is not the first time that this logistics platform has been targeted. Thirteen of his trucks were set on fire in 2016. The arsonist was sentenced to one year in prison.
