Osaka City’s regular press conference was held on March 14th, and Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama said, “It’s really unfortunate and painful. If possible, I would like to restore it to its original state,” he said with a solemn look on his face.
The circumstances of this incident are that the monument, which was normal at around 11pm on the 12th, was discovered to be damaged in several places at 6am on the 13th the following day. A police report was immediately filed, and it was received.
Regarding the current status of the investigation, Mayor Yokoyama said, “We have submitted the data (from the security cameras) that serves as evidence to the police investigation agency. This is a street crime and property damage, and it should never happen.I ask that it never happen again.”
Currently, anyone can approach the monument and take photos. Regarding measures such as installing fences, he said, “The original purpose is to have people come closer to the public, take photos, and feel closer to the Expo.We are not really thinking about measures that would keep them away.” I said no.
