Today, the statue of Anne Frank on Merwedeplein was again defaced with red paint. ‘Free Gaza’ was sprayed on the statue with red paint, and the hands were also painted red. On July 9, the statue was defaced in a similar manner.
The Anne Frank Foundation is horrified to learn of the graffiti. Ronald Leopold, general director of the Anne Frank Foundation: ‘This graffiti touches our hearts once again. The image reminds us of a young girl, with ambitions and dreams. A girl who was murdered, simply because she was Jewish. The graffiti today is extra painful, on the day that Anne Frank was arrested, exactly 80 years ago today.’
The Anne Frank Foundation is committed to continuing efforts, together with others, to combating anti-Semitism and other forms of group hatred.
