THE MARRIAGE OF PASSION BETWEEN VAN RYSEL AND ROUBAIX LILLE METROPOLE

The story is beautiful and we will remember that the Roubaix Lille Métropole cycling team has come a long way after the sinking of its title sponsor when the season was just beginning. But in Roubaix, mountains are being moved and the team is at the start of the 4 Days of Dunkerque Grand Prix des Hauts-de-France with the colors and the naming of its new partner, Van Rysel, the Performance bike brand of the Decathlon group. A true marriage of passion between a young brand in search of notoriety and a historic team of the French peloton.

This Monday, May 15, the day before the start of the 4 Days of Dunkirk 2023, there was joy and smiles, but also a form of relief, in the ranks of the riders and the staff of the Roubais training. During a presentation to the press in a hotel near Dunkirk, the team announced the name of its new title partner, Van Rysel, as well as the arrival of Norauto’s partners, while valuing an aid additional local authorities, namely the City of Roubaix, the European Metropolis of Lille, the Nord Department and the Hauts-de-France Region. For the uninitiated, Van Rysel, which means “From Lille” in Flemish, is the Performance bike brand of the Decathlon group and it equips the cyclist from head to toe in addition to the bike and the home-trainer. The northern brand, which aims to be in the world’s Top 5 within a few years, is ambitious and its merger with the Roubaix Lille Métropole team, which was in difficulty with the withdrawal of its title sponsor, is a great opportunity to increase the notoriety of Van Rysel who must now make a name for himself in the professional peloton.

Daniel Verbrackel, General Manager of VC Roubaix
“It’s the result of a good meeting with project manager Van Rysel who came to see me at the office knowing our situation. Everything was tied up quickly to be at the start of the 4 Days of Dunkirk with a new identity: Van Rysel Roubaix Lille Métropole. It is a meaning. The Decathlon and Van Rysel Group is a very large company in Hauts-de-France. We will do our best to live up to Van Rysel’s expectations. It’s a relief even though we have always been transparent with them about the situation. This is the start of a new and beautiful adventure. »

Nicolas Pierron, Manager of Van Rysel
“It makes sense since we are two northern entities with a common DNA: the North, the cobblestones. We were touched by the situation of this club which had just lost its main partner so it was quite natural that we started to get closer, that we started to discuss to try to build together a project of continuity for this year 2023. There is also a cycling section, a young section which trains the future cyclists of tomorrow, a BMX section so it is really a global project that we will try to work with this club. »
