Manchester. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s time at Manchester United has come to an end, the club said in a statement on Monday, a day after the Dutchman led the team to a 3-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City. in his fourth game as interim coach.
Van Nistelrooy’s departure was announced on the same day that Rubén Amorim arrived in Manchester as United’s permanent manager.
“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend,” United said. “We are grateful for his contribution and the way he has approached his role throughout his time at the club. He will always be welcome at Old Trafford.”
Club assistants René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel also left on Monday, and the Old Trafford club said it would announce Amorim’s squad at a later date.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, had led United to three wins and a draw in all competitions since the sacking of Erik Ten Hag, and the former striker had expressed on several occasions that he hoped to remain at the club following Amorim’s arrival.
Amorim, 39, landed in Manchester on Monday and was greeted with a hug by CEO Omar Berrada. The Portuguese planned to meet with key personnel until his visa is obtained and he can assume the position of coach. The club said it hopes to obtain the visa shortly.
Van Nistelrooy joined Ten Hag’s squad last season as an assistant, before taking over as interim coach. He was serenaded by fans at Old Trafford after Sunday’s victory.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was one of the players who shone the most under him, with four goals in four games, after not having scored in his previous 17 under Ten Hag.
