A van in Borgerhout was largely burned out on Tuesday evening. This happened in the parking lot of DIY store Gamma, near the Terloplein. It has been restless there for a week now because of loitering youths who ignited fireworks bombs too often. Everything indicates that the fire started from such a firework bomb.

The incident happened at around 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening. “Everything indicates that the fire was caused by fireworks,” says spokesman Willem Migom of the Antwerp police. The van, which was parked in the parking lot of the Gamma, largely burned out.
“According to another witness, some young people quickly ran away before the fire broke out and the bangs started. Another witness stated that shortly before during sports she was harassed by the group and even a stone was thrown at her, ”said Migom.
It has been restless for some time in the vicinity of the Terloplein in Borgerhout. A few loitering youths make the lives of local residents miserable by setting off one firework bomb after another. The Antwerp police are aware of the problems, but the young people are playing a cat and mouse game with the police. According to street workers, who are trying to sensitize the young people, it concerns a few bad apples.
The police immediately started an investigation into the arson. “There have been three administrative arrests during the evening,” confirms Migom. It all concerns minors. Several administrative arrests have also been made in the area in recent days.
