Car dealer Van Mossel Automotive Group from Waalwijk is going to expand significantly in Germany. With the takeover of dealer group Hugo Pfohe from the Hamburg region, the company is taking its first major step outside the Benelux.
The takeover fits perfectly in the European growth strategy, says Van Mossel CEO Eric Berkhof. “Hugo Pfohe is in a strategic region for us in Germany,” says Berkhof. “The leasing companies we already have in Düsseldorf are a perfect addition to that.”
Family business
Hugo Pfohe has 700 employees and a turnover of 300 million euros. This family business trades in car brands such as Ford, Mazda, Kia, Mini, BMW, Jaguar and Landrover.
The 75-year-old Van Mossel claims to be the largest car dealer group in the Benelux, which annually sells more than 150,000 new and used cars and has around 100,000 lease cars on the road.
The turnover of the Van Mossel Automotive Group was around 3.5 billion euros last year. The company has around 350 branches in Europe and around 5000 employees.
Van Mossel has grown enormously in recent years. Numerous car companies were taken over in the Benelux. Now the company is mainly focusing on further growth in Europe.
