1,100 jobs to be eliminated over a period of 3 years. That is the harsh verdict after the special works council at bus builder Van Hool in Koningshooikt, near Lier. This makes the great fears of many employees come true. They have been fearing layoffs for months.
Rudy Winnepenninckx from Rotselaar, who has been working at Van Hool for 17 years, was also not satisfied with the works council. “Initially I was still optimistic. I thought I would make a new, fresh start. But the closer the meeting gets, the more afraid I become of the judgement.” He feared he would hear that a pension was coming. “I am already over 60. I want to continue working, but I am not looking forward to applying for a job again and creating a CV.”
