A painting by the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was also auctioned on Thursday evening in New York for an amount of approximately 85 million euros.

The bidding took almost twenty minutes. The work was expected to yield some EUR 46 million; due to commissions and other costs, the total amount came to $ 103.4 million.

It concerns the painting entitled Femme assise près d’une fenêtre (Marie-Thérèse) (Woman seated by a window (Marie-Thérèse)). Picasso painted the canvas with his then muse Marie-Thérèse Walter in 1932. As on Le Rêve (The Dream), another canvas on which Walter is depicted, Picasso painted her in predominantly light and bright colors.
