Van Gerwen immediately broke Durrant in leg three with a handsome 85 finish, but immediately got a 105 finish from Durrant in the following leg. In leg five it was again hit for Van Gerwen. Durrant missed an arrow on double 16 from 68 and Van Gerwen did not miss, leaving Van Gerwen Duzza managed to break again. With a handsome 94 finish (S18, D18, D20) clears Mighty Mike cashing in the break to take a 4-2 lead.
Because of that break, Van Gerwen kept the initiative in the match for a long time, in which Durrant left few holes in his own legs. Van Gerwen ran out to 5-3 and two legs later it was 6-4 in favor of the three-time world champion.
Still, Durrant continued to cling to the match, which meant that Van Gerwen could hardly afford any mistakes in his own legs. By throwing a 108-finish under great pressure, Van Gerwen secured himself at least one point against the leader of the ranking.
Van Gerwen received two match darts from 52 to end the match winning, but missed both arrows, so Durrant managed to pull a decisive fourteenth leg out of the fire. Van Gerwen was unable to conclude this leg in fifteen arrows, so Durrant took a point from Van Gerwen via double 1.
Due to the draw, the Vlijmenaar with 15 points is still outside the top 4 of the ranking. Aspinall is in 4th place with the same number of points, but with a better leg balance.
