Frenkie de Jong not always the first choice Barcelona this season. Apparently he did the coach Dutch national team, Louis van Gaal not happy.
At the market last summer, De Jong’s future was widely discussed. He was linked to Manchester United and Chelsea, but he refused to move because Barcelona owed him a salary of up to € 17 million.
This condition had made De Jong splash by Barcelona fans, even though the club wanted to reduce the wage burden. Especially at that moment, the Blaugrana had difficulty in registering the players. He was then labeled selfish and reluctant to sacrifice.

There is also news that De Jong will not be Barcelona’s first choice if he chooses to stay but refuses to cut his salary. In the end, De Jong remained at the Camp Nou and his share of € 20 million this season has not been circumcised.
Regardless of whether it has anything to do with the aforementioned problems, but De Jong’s status in Barcelona’s midfield has actually started to be replaced this season. He wasn’t always the first choice, and only started 4 times in 8 games, with a total playing time of 470 minutes.
He had to share the game with Gavi and Pedri in the central midfield position. If Sergio Busquets is absent, he is inserted as a defensive midfielder.
This condition is a concern for Van Gaal ahead of the 2022 World Cup in November. He is believed to be concerned that De Jong is not in the best shape due to the lack of many opportunities to play for Barcelona.
The same goes for Memphis Depay who also plays for Barcelona. He lost to Robert Lewandowski and only played 131 minutes this season, scoring one goal.
“It is true that yesterday many players contacted me on the transfer market. But I always say that ‘my advice is this, but you have to make a decision'”, said Van Gaal, quoted by Express.
“I am happy with whatever decision has been made. But I would be happier if Frenkie and Memphis had more playing time than they currently get,” explained the former Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and MU manager.
