LIverpool –
Liverpool seems unsure of losing Virgil van Dijk can play again this season. This is because the Dutch defender was temporarily dropped from the Reds squad.
Van Dijk picked up a knee ligament injury as Liverpool drew 2-2 against Everton last weekend. In that match at Goodison Park, Van Dijk only played 12 minutes before being replaced by Joe Gomez.
After the match, Van Dijk underwent an examination and was sentenced to undergo surgery at the earliest next week. Usually players who get injuries like this rest for around 7-9 months, depending on the recovery process.
So, in that way, Van Dijk might miss all of Liverpool’s remaining matches this season. Of course the manager Juergen Klopp doesn’t want to take the risk of playing Van Dijk quickly and it will be even worse.
Therefore, Klopp asked Virgil van Dijk focused on recovering from his knee injury with the Liverpool medical team. In the meantime, the Dutch defender was dropped from the team Liverpool registered with the Premier League for the 2020/2021 competition.
Of the 25 players registered, there are a maximum of 17 players who do not qualify for the Home Grown Player (HGP). While the rest must be those from the original English club academy or those under the auspices of the FA.
Clubs are also required to provide a list of U-21 players so that players like Curtis Jones will not exhaust their main squad quota. Liverpool could register Van Dijk’s name at the end of the January transfer window.
However, even that was provided that Van Dijk had recovered and could play from January to the end of the season. Then it is likely Virgil van Dijk will be absent throughout this season.
