Trainer Dutch National Team Louis van Gaal respond to complaints Virgil van Dijk about team tactics. According to Van Gaal, tactics are his domain and cannot be contested.
Van Dijk’s complaint emerged after the Netherlands beat Denmark in a friendly match at the Johan Cruyff ArenA, Sunday (27/3/2022). The Netherlands itself won with a score of 4-2.
The result continued the positive trend of the Netherlands since being handled by Van Gaal with eight consecutive wins and successfully advancing to the 2022 World Cup finals as winners of the qualifying group.
Unfortunately, since being handled by Van Gaal, the Netherlands, which used to play with a 4-3-3 formation, has now changed to a 3-4-1-2. Van Dijk, who used to play in a four-back pattern, now has to adapt again to a three-back pattern.
Paired with Mathijs de Ligt and Nathan Ake, Van Dijk is not used to it and has had to struggle a few times to guard against opponents. Therefore, Van Dijk seems to be complaining about Van Gaal’s choice of tactics.
