Van der Gijp detests female footballer: ‘I hated her’

René van der Gijp was annoyed by Victoria Beckham’s performance in the four-part docuseries Beckham on Netflix. The analyst from Today Inside said this in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. Van der Gijp has watched the full documentary about David Beckham, but says that he found it ‘heavy stuff’. This mainly has to do with Victoria Beckham.
The docuseries about Beckham scores like crazy, but Van der Gijp had difficulty watching it. “I have to be very honest, Rob (Jansen, ed.). I also watched it this weekend. When I watch a documentary for five hours about a football player with his wife, and the people around them, and I If I can’t even smile once in those five hours, I find it tough. I found it really tough.”
While Beckham himself comes off well with Van der Gijp, his wife Victoria Beckham in particular has to suffer. “I thought he was a nice guy, there’s nothing wrong with that. But I thought she was a terrible whiner. That bitch on the couch keeps complaining. At one point I just hated her!”
“I thought that woman was complaining,” Gijp continues. “What a terrible woman, oh what a terrible woman.” Van der Gijp also thought the contributions of Fabio Capello and Gary Neville, among others, added little. “You can’t really laugh at them, that doesn’t make you happy either.”
Nevertheless, Van der Gijp has watched the entire documentary, he says. “I thought it was tough, but ultimately fun. I watched it.” Jansen is a lot more positive. “Well, I enjoyed his career, the stories from the dressing room and the match footage. The match footage was really good by the way.”
Netflix is currently doing quite a bit with the documentary about Beckham, which is described as follows. “This docuseries with never-before-seen footage follows the meteoric rise of David Beckham, from humble beginnings to world-famous footballer.” On MovieMeter the documentary receives 3.6 out of 5 possible stars.
The now 48-year-old Beckham broke through as a talent at Manchester United, for whom he played a total of 394 official matches. The Red Devils sold the 115-time England international to Real Madrid for around 38 million euros in 2003, after which he ended up at Paris Saint-Germain via Los Angeles Galaxy and AC Milan. Beckham ended his playing career in Paris in 2013. He is now co-owner of Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, among others, signed last summer.
