Van der Gijp is done with ‘baby’ Derksen: ‘Then we stop’

When presenter Wilfred Genee asks Derksen if he thinks Today Inside is a shit show, he admits it. The journalist willingly comes to the broadcasts because he does not always agree with the topics discussed. “I will still come, because I have a contract. It is not my program, in terms of content.”

“Do you want to talk to yourself?” Van der Gijp asks Derksen. “That would be nice,” Derksen laughs at first. The former football player says that he wants to change completely according to the wishes of the journalist. “It’s not about that at all. But the choice of subjects is so overwhelming to me at times.”

According to Derksen, a lot is going on in the Netherlands and mentions for example that the editors choose the charges against the owner of the Harrods department store, Mohamed Al Fayed, who died. Dozens of former employees have been accused of sexual abuse. “Last week we talked about that old gentleman from Harrods, who put a few teachers in the pile. The whole of Holland is on fire. Now get topical.”

Derksen focuses on more ‘serious topics’ and ‘less carnivalesque’. The journalist does not agree with the editors, who indicate that the choice of subject is a ‘nice mix’. Van der Gijp then states that they can stop Today Inside. “Well, if you want to stop it, we’ll stop it, right?” said Derksen, “I think it’s fine,” the former football player replied, “What does it matter to me?”

“I’ve been building it for over a year,” Derksen continues of the themes VI. “Then I say: I have been here for 26 years, but I have nothing bad to say, not in any area. Not about the choice of subject, not about the people sitting at the table.” The journalist regularly goes home ‘with the plague in his body’ after broadcasting. Van der Gijp calls that a ‘shame’. “If you call me: René, from today you can sit there but say nothingThen I wouldn’t mind.”

“Don’t you notice that you spent half an hour talking about politics with the girl Merel (Merel Ek, ed.) last week?” Van der Gijp then changed his tone a little more angry. “Then I said I was at home. I didn’t look at you, I was just watching TV. The only thing I did was take a piss after twenty minutes. I didn’t say anything for 35 minutes. I just let you go. What else do you want? You want to talk for 43 minutes?

“What are we doing now? ” Van der Gijp ponders a lot. “We’re grown people, man. But you’re not. You’re not grown up, you’re becoming a childish old man who likes to talk. You just want to be speaking. You have my blessing. I think you’re a nice person, but don’t be so difficult, man.”

Derksen then points the finger at Genee. “I’m not sorry, but he starts talking about it.” Then the presenter moves on to another topic and it’s like nothing happened.
