With Latin music, a mural, Dominican and Indian food, Mother’s Day was celebrated from Van Cortlandt Park.
Jessica Altagracia Woolford, United Kingsbridge Volunteer Organization was there:
“Today we are celebrating with an event where we are very nostalgic to be in the park here with your mom, with your family to celebrate and today we want to celebrate the mothers who work a lot, but sometimes we don’t do things for ourselves,” she said.
This is the first time that the group of volunteers, Kingsbridge Unidos, has organized this initiative outdoors in order to make mothers visible, thank them and celebrate them as a family.
As part of the activity, a free store of summer clothes and products for moms was included.
Rosa Burgos, a resident of The Bronx, was one of the participants and shared that her role as a mother has shown her the great strength she has as a woman:
“That teaches us that we mothers are very strong and that comes out when things are uglier and darker and we don’t have much support, that’s when we know that we are very strong and all that comes out and we know that how no matter what race or culture, help and support each other”, says this mother of three children.
And so in this multicultural community, beautiful is shared and mothers are celebrated on their special day.
