Van Basten on United profile: – He is not so good

See van de Beek’s goal in the home debut at the top!

Midfielder Donny van de Beek was brought to Manchester United from Ajax last summer for about 400 million kroner. Then he had for many years played great for Ajax in his offensive midfield role.

But the 24-year-old has struggled to establish himself and get playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s management at Old Trafford.

Dutch football legend Marco van Basten fully understands this. He believes that the compatriot is not good enough to control the matches in the “10s role” at Manchester United, in the same way as he did at Ajax.

Van Basten also does not think it was a wise choice for the Dutch national team player to sign for Manchester United.

– It was not a smart choice. If you say that you have talked to Real Madrid about a transfer, and then go to Manchester United, then you are aiming too high, van Basten says to Soccer Zone, before concluding:

– Van de Beek is not so good. It is much easier to play as number ten in Ajax than it is in Spain or England. In the Dutch league you get a lot of help, you get more opportunities, but that is not the case in the big foreign leagues, he states.

– The Ronaldo transfer is bad news for us

Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly recently brought back to Manchester United. Van de Beek’s agent Guido Albers described it as “really bad news” for us Ziggo Sports in the Netherlands.

“Paul Pogba plays on the left side of midfield, and with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo it means an extra player in midfield, and Pogba must be pulled away from the left side,” the agent said.

He confirmed that de Beek wanted to change clubs before the transfer window closed last Tuesday.

– We had conversations with Solskjær and with the board. We took the initiative to find a club and we ended up at Everton. We opened conversations with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri. But on Monday night we got a phone call from Solskjær, who said that the club ruled out a transfer, and that he had to go to training the next day, he sighed.

Rely on Solskjær

Donny van de Beek himself says in an interview with the podcast to the former United giant Rio Ferdinand that the time at the club so far has been difficult.

– I started well and scored in my first match. But then it became difficult. It’s not easy not to play matches, considering the confidence and things like that. It is normal that it takes time to adapt, but I am not happy not to play, he says.

– Mentally it is tough, but I train hard every day. That’s the only thing I can do, so I’m ready when I get the chance, the midfield profile continues.

He does not resent manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær due to his lack of playing time.

– I have to trust Solskjær. If he did not need me, he would let me go. I hope that one day I can show the fans what I can do, van de Beek thinks.
