Valve planned to have its portable gaming unit Steam Deck out with customers in time for the Christmas holidays 2021. Now the company has unfortunately announced that the console will not start shipping before February 2021 at the earliest.
Steam Deck has managed to capture the interest of many gamblers and customers looked forward to being able to enjoy the Christmas holidays with the handheld gaming computer. Unfortunately, this will not happen then Valve now has confirmed that the production of the unit is lagging behind and that it will not start being sent out to customers until early next year.
The unit, which was initially intended to fall into the hands of customers in December 2021, will now not land until sometime in February next year. This is because the current component shortage continues to make up for it in the production lines.
Valve has said that customers keep their place in the Steam Deck queue, but it will then take a little longer before the queue starts to move.
Exactly what components Valve has not been able to get in enough of these is not explained. However, there is a lack of several different components that are important for the production of devices such as Valve’s console. It also remains to be seen how well production will be able to roll on after the month of February. In the worst case, we will see further stops in the queue in 2022 until the component shortage comes to some kind of solution.
