Ernesto Valverde is already in the top ten of the coaches with the highest number of games played in the Spanish league. The Athletic coach last Sunday in Elche equaled former teammate and friend Mendilibar in tenth position in the standings with 448 games. Marcel Domingo, ninth in the standings, precedes him by seven games for now.
Txingurri, the nickname by which this manager has been fondly known in Atletico circles since his time as a player, has gone through five different benches in the state championship over the course of his coaching career. Atletico, in three different phases, Espanyol, Villarreal, Valencia and Barça make up a curriculum that at a foreign level includes only Olympiacos, from Greece.
In the first two teams he completed the different seasons (six in Bilbao and two in the parakeet), in the third he was sacked on the 20th matchday, he took the fourth in the 24th and he directed the azulgrana for two and a half seasons. Since his departure, by the way, Barça have not won the championship anymore.
