Valve has released the Proton 9.0 software update, which adds better support for NVIDIA GPUs and high-end processors.
Valve’s Proton has become popular in modern times, especially with the debut of the Steam Deck, as the device is based natively on the Linux OS. Proton acts as a bridge between Windows and Linux, allowing users of the latter platform to run compatible Windows games.
Valve’s latest update, Proton 9.0, adds several games that have received support, as well as many other optimization changes aimed at improving the user experience.
In addition to new games, Valve’s Proton 9.0 has also brought better performance to users using high-core processors. Games like Far Cry 4 and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. limit the number of cores used in the case of high-performance processors, which leads to reduced performance. This new update will reportedly remove this limitation and allow players to push the maximum power out of their processors.
Another interesting addition to the new update is the default inclusion of NVIDIA NVAPI, which SDX is designed for specific hardware, in this case NVIDIA GPUs. This move is expected to bring a nice performance boost to NVIDIA users on Linux, which will ultimately create a much more enjoyable experience as gaming on Linux is relatively difficult due to the platform’s lack of access to modern software tools.
