Valve makes Left 4 Dead available uncensored in Germany after eleven years – Gaming – News

There is just still a lot of guilt. And it is also something, for everyone who has experienced those times. It still plays today. Jokes we make here about “the Germans are coming!” show that. Compare that with other conquerors of (part of) our little country. How often do you hear someone joke “the French are coming!” or the Italians, or the Spaniards?
Germany did and is doing its best to quell the glorification of that period. And that should be appreciated. After all, they are our neighbors, to whom we regularly owe a lot. For example, now with covid or always our trade towards the Ruhr area. That does us no harm.
The fact that we sometimes seem to think that you can shout whatever you want, regardless of the consequences, is much more dangerous. Think of a Wilders who deliberately incites the public for their own gain under the motto “freedom of expression.” Not correcting that kind of behavior can quickly turn into organized action, just as we have seen in Germany. People haven’t changed, we just have more resources to be faster and more deadly than ever. With that in mind, it is not at all strange not to allow certain topics and statements outright.

But that is separate from the blood in games. That’s a bit of an overreaction as far as I’m concerned.
