Valve has stopped supporting the Steam launcher for computers running Windows versions 7, 8 and 8.1. This is due to the fact that newer versions of the application are written on the Chromium engine, which does not support previous versions of the OS. A warning about this was posted on the digital store forum.
Starting January 1, 2024, Valve will no longer add new features to Steam on older versions of operating systems, and will also stop updating security protocols. In addition, Steam Support will no longer respond to requests for technical problems from users with outdated OSes.
Players who already have Steam installed will retain access to the launcher and all features already available. At the same time, new users or gamers on Windows 7 and 8 operating systems who want to reinstall the client will no longer be able to download the launcher. Valve recommended that gamers update their system to newer versions.
