It will operate alongside two existing E-glass and one more high-silica glass melting furnace. On July 14, the heating of the new furnace was started in order to prepare it for the start of glass fiber production, and already at the beginning of August it could provide high-value export products to foreign markets.

“We are the only Western supplier of high temperature resistance glass fiber products. Our customers, following the consequences of war on the world political stage and facing insecure product supply alternatives from sanctioned territories and countries with questionable political and economic plans, are looking for a sustainable supply chain in Europe. Seeing the growing demand, we are currently increasing our production capacity in order to be able to serve this market sector,” says Stefans Jugel, chairman of the board of JSC “Valmieras stikla šciedra”.

The company exports more than 95% of its production, and all high-silica glass fiber production also goes abroad. In the future, AS “Valmieras stikla šciedra” plans to reduce the market share in the field of standard products and offer its customers a wider range of personalized technical and commercial solutions.

From the glass fibers with a high silicon oxide content obtained in the new furnace, products capable of providing heat resistance of up to 1100°C will be produced. Their importance is incomparable in industries that require low thermal conductivity, inertness to most chemical reagents, resistance to organic and mineral acids, weak alkali, water and high-pressure steam. Therefore, these products are often used in various high-tech industries, such as aviation and space industry, chemical industry, metallurgy, production of special clothing, energy industry, mechanical engineering, as well as in the production of insulating materials for electric car batteries. This is a specialized niche product produced by only a small number of suppliers worldwide, the company explains.
