“Valmiera” unexpectedly closes participation in the Conference League qualification – Football Premier League – Football

In the “Valmiera” match against the Lithuanian team in Marijampole “Sūduva” Daugava stadium in Riga, the goal was not scored on Thursday, with the Lithuanian club winning 2: 1 in the sum of two matches.

The home team had a number of great chances of reaching at least 1: 0, which would have given them a road sign for the second round, but the chances remained untapped.

In the first third of the game, the most dangerous scoring moment was Ibrahim Sovam, but he hit the goalkeeper in the outfield against the goalkeeper Serafim Jannikoglu.

This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Daisukes Jokotas slipped through the defense on the right to come up alone against Sovam, but the home side’s keeper showed his lightning reflexes.

At the beginning of the second half, the people of Valmiera had several good opportunities, the most dangerous of which was Raimonds Krollis, who repulsed Jannikoglu.

Only in the 63rd minute, the guests had the first chance to score, saving Valmiera goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics from losing the goal.

“Valmiera” made two substitutions, leaving Aliunas Ndojė and Jibril Gaya on the field, but the guest goal remained unconquered. The best chance of scoring after that was a counterattack in which Kroļļa could not handle the ball properly.

Valmiera lost 1: 2 to the away team in the first match. All three goals were scored with 11-meter penalties, the last of which – the victorious for the Lithuanians – was realized in the sixth minute of the compensation time. Raimonds Krollis scored for Valmiera.

The people of Valmiera take the third place in the Latvian championship, but their opponents in the Lithuanian A league are their vice-leaders. The club has not lost in the last five games, including the Lithuanian Cup.

This is the second season for Valmiera in the European Cups. Last year, in the first round of the European League, the Lech of Poznań was lost 0: 3 in the sum of two matches.

The Lithuanian team has played 55 matches in the European Cups, winning 17 and playing 14 of them in a draw.

Last season, “Sūduva” overcame one round in the Champions League, but in the third round of the European League, Kuopio KuPS from Finland gave up 0: 2.

The Polish club Czestochowa’s Rakow, represented by Latvian striker Vladislav Gutkovskis, will face the Sūduva unit in the second round.

The UEFA European Conference League Main Event will feature 32 teams, the longest of which is the five qualifying rounds.
