“It’s not a song festival, it’s a song festival, focusing on a specific time period, you could say generation and way of thinking – an alternative way of thinking and an alternative understanding of music that is hidden somewhere in the background. underground music, now there is no more, “says Jēkabs Nimmanis.

It will be a one-off event that is not intended to be a tradition.

The Valmiera Summer Theater Festival is expanding this year – it will take place for four days, from August 4 to 7, as well as several works of the festival will experience guest performances outside Valmiera. The main theme of this year’s festival is free thinking.

In total, the audience will be offered nine productions, six of which will be new works, starting with performances for children and ending with performances of contemporary art, opera and movement, and three – performances popular with previous years and also winning the “Players’ Night” awards.

The festival will focus on freedom of thought, highlighting the importance of freedom and thought (but not only) in these difficult times when Russia commits war crimes in Ukraine on a daily basis; At a time when what is happening in the information space divides the society, the opportunity to express oneself freely, to be free in various meanings, is especially relevant. In the context of performances, this phenomenon will be seen as an opportunity to be independent in one’s thoughts and actions, to unleash one’s creative potential.

One of the biggest events of the festival will be a large-format concert on the Valmiera stage with the participation of the brass band “Riga” and several hundred choirs, which will update the “alternative and non-commercial” music created twenty to thirty years ago. Arrangements by six contemporary musicians, such as “Pest of a Child”, will be performed by six contemporary composers, such as “Pest of a Child”, Street “,” Trobels “,” Non Skid “,” Childhood Militia “and others.
