During the week of the festival from 2 to 8 August, depending on the limitations of Covid-19, there will be face-to-face or online training on the specifics of the children’s and youth theater genre, as well as practical work on the idea of their show. The theme of this year’s institute is – What should a contemporary show for children and young people look like? During the week, meetings and discussions with industry specialists on important issues are planned in order to successfully and responsibly create performances for children and young people. Center Dardedze representatives will inform about the basic principles of children’s rights, psychotherapist Diāna Zande and the head of the Center for Adolescent and Youth Psychology Nils Saks Konstantinovs will introduce the peculiarities of age groups. Director and head of the institute Jānis Znotiņš will share practical advice on how to use the acquired knowledge in practice. After the end of the training, one of the young artists will be given the opportunity to work and realize their performance idea at next year’s festival. The participation fee in the institute’s program is 100 euros.
This year, the Valmiera Summer Theater Festival will take place from August 6 to 8 and will be dedicated to children and youth audiences. Taking care of the safety and health of spectators and event creators, the creative work on the content of the program takes into account various scenarios – both a situation where gatherings during the festival will be allowed and one in which the audience will be limited or not possible at all.
