The Palma singer-songwriter Valeria Castro has defended, in an interview with EFE, the value of self-care, which she achieves by “composing and singing,” because it allows her to carry out “an internal healing process” with which she also transmits “emotions” through of his letters.
Castro opens the year with his concert this Tuesday at the Actual festival in Logroño, within the tour of his album ‘With affection and care’, in which he has already confirmed another 18 concerts in Spain and will end in July in the Czech Republic , after having performed in five Latin American countries at the end of 2023.
After that “fear mixed with excitement” of the first concerts, due to the uncertainty of her audience’s response, the Palma performer recognizes that she has now reached “cruising speed,” which allows her to enjoy “with great happiness.”
In concerts in small spaces, such as theaters, “it is as enjoyable” as on large stages, because the important thing is “to reach each listener, whether there are a hundred or a thousand.”
Reconnect La Palma
The 24-year-old singer has spent the Christmas holidays in La Palma, her native island, where she has managed to “reconnect after all the whirlwind that 2023 has entailed”, in which she has published her first LP and has achieved her first Grammy nomination Latinos in the category of ‘Best Author Song’ for ‘La Root’.
“Coming from a small place, and also an island, made me aware of limits from a young age and taught me to enjoy small things, with their lightness. By achieving bigger things, I have been aware of my roots and I have been able to value it,” she said.
Thus, his songs have helped him, in recent years, to talk about his land, which has greatly “marked” his musical project.
The last volcano in Cumbre Vieja, which devastated the island in September 2021, including his grandmother’s house, “left a sad feeling, especially when feeling the oblivion of the rest of the world, because there is still a lot to be done,” he stressed. .
Sorority and self-care
Castro dedicated his song ‘Guerrera’ to his grandmother and mother, an ode to sisterhood in which he exalts them as his “references” and vindicates the “need to honor the preceding generation, because it is nice to stop and look back and see.” who has made the way.”
Despite the “rise of feminism,” she maintains that “the battle has not been won and there is still much to do to balance the balance,” so, with so many open fronts in the world, “the most beautiful thing is to remember the yours”.
His lyrics also talk about self-care, because he maintains that current “self-demand” has taken its toll on mental health, so he recommends “managing mercy towards oneself.”
“When I see tears at my concerts, I perceive that music heals wounds and heals something that cannot be achieved on a daily basis. “I seek to excite and achieve an intimate connection with my songs to heal wounds,” she reflected.
Alejandro Sanz and his versions
Although the artist has composed her own songs since her beginnings, in 2015 she began to publish versions of other groups on Instagram, such as La Oreja de Van Gogh, Jarabe de Palo, Joaquín Sabina, Alejandro Sanz and Luz Casal, among others.
In 2017, Alejandro Sanz shared Castro’s version of his ‘Corazón partío’ on his social networks, which catapulted the palm tree’s musical career and the publication of his first EP ‘Chiquita’ (2021).
Later, other collaborations arrived, such as ‘El amor de Andrea’ with Vetusta Morla, ‘Talk about nothing’ with Viva Sweden and the recent ‘Hoxe, mañá e semper’ with Tanxugueiras, which has allowed him to enjoy “shared work with bands ”.
“2023 has been a spectacular year on a work and personal level, too,” he assured, which has forced him to put aside the completion of his university studies in Biotechnology to focus on his “passion for music.”
He asks “little” from 2024, after everything that 2023 has brought him, but he hopes “not to lose his enthusiasm on stage and to continue enjoying” his work, with which he manages to “make his audience enjoy” as well.
