Valentino Rossi Wins GT World Challenge Europe Car Racing Championship at Misano Circuit

KOMPAS.com – The remnants of Valentino Rossi’s greatness on the track have not been exhausted. Most recently, the MotoGP legend won the GT World Challenge Europe car racing championship at the Misano Circuit.

Valentino Rossi and the Team WRT BMW team achieved brilliant results in the fifth series of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe 2023 which was held at the Misano Circuit, Italy, July 13-16 2023.

Driving a BMW M4 GT3 car with co-driver Maxime Martin, Rossi managed to win the second race of the GT World Challenge Europe race at Misano.

Rossi finished at the forefront after devouring 36 with a total travel time of 1 hour 33.316 minutes.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion finished 4.243 seconds ahead of Lucas Legeret and Christopher Haase of the ComToYou Racing team who finished second.

Meanwhile, the third podium in race 2 GT World Challenge Europe 2023 in the Misano series belongs to Rossi’s team-mates at Team WRT BMW, Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer and Thomas Neubauer.

For Rossi, this is his first victory in the GT World Challenge car racing event.

This victory was even more special because it was won at Misano, a circuit considered Rossi’s home ground when he was active in the MotoGP World Championship.

“Winning the first race at Misano is very special. In the Fanatec GT World Challenge, the level is very high and the riders are very fast,” said Rossi after the race.

Not to forget, the 44-year-old figure thanked his co-driver Maxime Martin and all of his team members.

“The riders did a great job at the pit stops, and I came out with a five second lead. At the same time, I had really good pace.”

“I have to thank my team and BMW,” said the racer who has the nickname The Doctor.

After retiring from MotoGP at the end of the 2021 season, Valentino Rossi is now active in the world of car racing.

Rossi has been taking part in the GT World Challenge Europe championship with Team WRT since last year by driving an Audi R8 LMS.

Starting this season, Team WRT switched to BMW cars and left Audi with whom they have worked for 13 years.

After completing the fifth series at Misano, Valentino Rossi and other racers will continue the 2023 GT World Challenge Europe championship at the Nuerburgring Circuit, Germany, from 29-30 July 2023.
