Valentine and Renata. The bloody journey of Maniak and his daughter in 1991 in Lithuania

The Lithuanian Valentīns Laskis, who in 1991 kept the whole of Lithuania in fear, was basically not a classic maniac – he killed for the purpose of robbery and did not “stand out” for especially sophisticated murders. Something else was surprising – he committed his crimes together with his then 20-year-old daughter Renata. When he got to the dock, Laskis did not regret anything he had done, nor did he ask for mercy.

Born in Kaunas in 1953 in a disadvantaged family, Valentin Laskis was the youngest of four children. The father had spent a large part of his life in prison, while the mother drank and did not care for the children. At the age of one, little Valentine was taken from his mother after he was found alone at home without supervision. The baby first went to the hospital because he was starving, but then he was placed in an orphanage.
“From childhood, he was naughty, disobedient and difficult to raise. He ran away from school and was rude to adults,” Laska describes his school days
