The world’s first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova and legendary film director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov are on the new ninth EU sanctions list against Russia, which has already been published in the Official Journal of the EU, BNR reports.
As a member of the Russian Duma, Tereshkova voted in favor of annexing Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia. Therefore, you have supported and implemented actions and policies that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. In 2020, on Tereshkova’s initiative, the Duma passed a law according to which Putin’s previous terms will be canceled after the new Russian constitution comes into force, in order to have the right to be elected to a third consecutive term in 2024.
As a director, actor and public figure, Nikita Mikhalkov actively supported the war in his public statements. He calls the Ukrainian language a “disaster” for Russia because, according to him, he spreads Russophobia. The director calls for a complete end to the teaching of the Ukrainian language in Donbass schools, and supports the Kremlin’s false messages about biological weapons in Ukraine and glorifies the Russian prisoners fighting there, are the justifications.
Others on the sanctions list include Justice Minister Konstantin Chuichenko, Constitutional Court President Valery Zorkin and 9 magistrates of the same body, as well as daughters of pro-Russian Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov Aishat and Karina. Also included are the parties United Russia, Liberal Democratic Party, Communist Party, New People and Just Russia-Parties for the Truth.
