Valentin Ivanov, accused of murdering a man in the Boris garden in Burgas, denies being guilty and claims that he has no recollection of having committed a criminal act. This became clear today during the hearing of his remand order in the Burgas District Court.
“He has no recollection of the act. He doesn’t even know what he’s doing in Burgas”said his lawyer Plamen Genov.
The Deputy District Prosecutor Svetoslav Marinchev stated for his part that in the courtroom, Ivanov’s only brief explanation for the act was that he was not guilty. In his explanations as a defendant, he denies that he was complicit in the murder.
According to his version, they parted with the deceased, who was: “alive and well.”
„There are reports that Ivanov has been receiving treatment in various health facilities in recent years. He even ran away from them several times, but in our opinion there is no definite evidence that he suffers from a mental illness that would make him insane. The evidence is that there is some mental disorder associated with the combined use of narcotic substances and alcohol. This will be clarified during the pre-trial proceedings. The case was opened only 3 days ago and the examinations are not yet ready to say whether he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the act”prosecutor Marinchev further explained.
Ivanov will also undergo a complex forensic psychiatric examination. He has a criminal record for damaging another’s property, but has not been convicted.
Judge Majdrakova from the District Court made a decision and kept Ivanov in custody with a permanent measure.
