Valenciennes Ranks 2nd in France for Most Burger Outlets per Capita

This is the unusual news of the week. And it comes to us from the mapping platform “The smack“, Toulouse start-up specializing in geomarketing.

Every month – they call it a “appointment data” – this platform is interested in the data of our daily lives. However, this month, for “Smappen” it was a question of looking at current trends in terms of street food, and more particularly on the improbable confrontation that there could be between the burger and the sushi in the cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants.

So, is France’s cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants “team sushi” or “team burger”? For now, it doesn’t really matter… On the other hand, in the various results provided by the “Smappen” platform, we learn that the city of Valenciennes is the 2nd city in France to have the most points of sale of burgers per capita, with one burger sales point per 1,441 inhabitants. While the national average, again established by Smappen, is one point of sale specializing in burgers per 4,847 inhabitants. Valenciennes therefore rises to second place in this national ranking, behind the city of Agde. And ahead of Hénin-Beaumont, Saint-Laurent-du-Var (in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), and the town of Puteaux in Hauts-de-Seine, which completes this top 5.

The statistic could amuse some, but also upset others, since it shows that the supply of burgers, a specialty not really recognized for its dietary virtues (even if it is also a recipe that has been enormously reworked in recent years to be a little more “healthy”), would be over-represented in Valenciennes.
