Valenciennes. The barriers have been blocking pedestrian access to the rue Ferrand entrance for two years now. It’s starting to get long! The large building, of which the agency of L’Observateur is adjoining, is sold. The Nexity agency was responsible for the sales agreement, which was signed. Still, the transaction takes time, especially on town planning issues to be settled in town hall. This is also the reason why the previous potential buyers would have ended up withdrawing along the way. Nexity indicates that the delay may still last three to four months. In other words, the barriers blocking the sidewalk are not ready to be lifted, by decision of the town hall, which prefers not to take risks. Indeed, the listed building is cracked on all sides. Props had to be put in to reinforce the windows.
Still several months of patience
The municipality is therefore waiting for the purchaser to undertake security work, in order to finally free the passage. Pedestrians will therefore have to be patient for several more months, and continue to use the sidewalk opposite, as suggested by the detour sign in place. However, many of us walk along the barriers and take the risk of brushing against the cars that tumble out of Place Carpeaux. Caution. Eventually, the building should be divided into housing and offer, on the ground floor, a commercial or professional cell. Long live! Because in addition to the security aspect, the image reflected by this obsolete building and this inaccessible sidewalk also ends up weighing on the morale of the troops.
