A few days ago, 136 reports at 135 euros (as well as three kidnappings) related to parking were drawn up in rue Abel de Pujol alone in the space of 15 days. Rue Abel de Pujol is part of what is called “Vieux Valenciennes”, a district comprising around fifteen streets which are currently undergoing major renovation (roads, sidewalks, sanitation). Also, because this would tend to spoil the landscape, the municipality has chosen not to install bollards in these streets. These same bollards which are supposed to dissuade motorists from parking where they should not…
“We will be
intransigent”
However, in rue Abel de Pujol, there is an area – where the choice has been made not to install bollards – which could lead motorists to think that they can park there. “But parking is prohibited there, simply because no parking space is materialized there.“, explains the mayor Laurent Degallaix.
It is in this area that the 136 VPs were drawn up. Also, the mayor of Valenciennes wants to be intransigent: “Each time, there were six cars. If there is no parking space, you cannot park there. Pedestrians, strollers, bicycles… No one could pass“, he explains.
Appeal
to the cameras
“We will be intractable on the issue. And we intend, because we are authorized to do so, to use our video surveillance cameras to verbalize those who will continue to park in this place.“, he warns.
