Valence designated Green Capital of Europe 2024 in Grenoble

And the winner is… Valence! The Spanish city beat Cagliari (Italy), the other finalist, for the title of European green capital 2024. The announcement was made this Thursday evening, at Grenoble sports centercurrent green capital until the end of the year. Patrizio ChildDeputy Director General of the Environment Division of the European Commission, he maintained the suspense until the end, pointing out that the choice had been difficult for the jury to make.

Present in Grenoble, the mayor of Valence, Joan Ribo Canut, surrounded by a delegation from the Municipality, did not hide his joy at the announcement of the result. The latter spoke in Spanish and particularly insisted on the city’s commitment to continue working, in collaboration with other European cities, to be more sustainable and welcoming. Valence received a check for € 600,000 for this title.

The other winners I am in the evening Ixelles (Denmark) e Order (Slovenia). Both were named co-winners of the title Green leaf 2024, the equivalent of Green Capital, but for smaller European cities (between 20,000 and 100,000 inhabitants). Romanian Bistrițaen, who was the other finalist, starts empty-handed. The two winners win a check for € 200,000 each from the European Commission.

For the record, Tallinn (Estonia) will be the Green Capital of Europe in 2023.
