A lot has happened since the beginnings of Vincent Dufour (Valence) with his former group Medora.
After the release of a first EP containing neat pop songs with a pastel sound unique to Valencethe latter won the final of the Les Francouvertes competition in 2020. The same year, Valence is named among the “10 young authors to watch in 2020” by Marie-Louise Arsenault on the show The more the merrier, the more we read! on ICI Première. Here he is with a first album and a signing with the independent record company Chivi Chivi.
Faced with boredom, everything has to be created
Following the pieces Never (I would have thought), published in April, and Life doesn’t wait released in May, the play America embodies the retropop, kitsch rock and unifying sound of the young artist from Quebec. The themes addressed by these three songs highlight the desire for freedom and to do things our way.
«The years pass, my identity becomes clearer and the way I look at myself becomes clearer. I am the product of a North American suburb where a competition is played out on the green color of the lawn and the eradication of its dandelions. Faced with boredom, everything has to be created; the curiosity to be someone else appeals to me more than ever. I hope not to disappoint those I love.»
Valence
In the music video that captures the spirit of the song, Valence flees the futility of an empty interview to fly to his freedom, accompanied by the friends with whom he created pell-mell, these represented by the archive images accumulated since the beginning of the project. The short film was co-directed by Valence as well as the duo Gerardo Alcaine and Lucho Calderon (Gaspard Eden, Le Pantoum).
