TO Cluj-Napoca, on Romania, Lea Godard became World Champion.
The member ofAASS Karate Sarcelles has indeed won the title awarded by the WUKF (World Union of Karate-do Federations) in combat karate (kumite shobu sanbon) among senior women (21-35 years old) from less than 55 kg.
In this federation parallel to the WKF, the assault rules were not the same as usual.
“The winner of the three-minute fight was the first to arrive at 6 points. There was no senshu (victory for the first scorer in the event of a tie); the blows could be stronger and an attack could be worth two points instead of one if it was not followed by reaction ”, recalls the protected of Daniel de Barros, selected after her victory at the Coupe de France wado-ryu in 2020.
Formidable in fists
Well prepared by Kenji Grillon and Robert Rosélia, she dominated the Welsh Lauren Gallagher (6-3), Italian Livia Savignano (6-4) and Romanian Daiana Simona Vancsa, holding the title (6-5).
“In the final, I was behind by two points. But halfway through the fight, I recovered thanks to my fist attacks. When she equalized at 5-5, I immediately attacked again in kizami-gyaku, scoring the point of victory, ”said the Sarcelloise.
His world title rewards his talent and tenacity. Winner of two young French Cups, French junior champion -47 kg in 2014 and in junior teams in 2017 then 3e in seniors -55 kg in 2019, she had not won selection for the French team (FFKDA) due to strong competition from Pai-Line Martre, from Sirine Lounes and of Louloa Valsan. Then, she was diagnosed with a chest problem (exercise asthma) in 2019 which forced her to reduce her training before her very demanding law degree studies away from the tatami mats.

His gold medal has comeback value. She presented it to the public on Saturday October 16 at Belloy-en-France (his city of residence) on the occasion ofPink October in favor of the fight against breast cancer.
