Val de Marne. Three bodies found after fire in house overrun with rubbish

Three charred bodies were found this Sunday in a house destroyed by fire in Vitry-sur-Seine (in Val-de-Marne), said the Créteil prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the Parisian. It could be a mother and her two children.

The father, a 57-year-old man, was taken into custody on Saturday evening before being hospitalized in a psychiatric unit on Sunday. This man could be suffering from Diogenes syndrome: he accumulated very large quantities of waste and belongings in his home which helped to spread the fire.

A trash fire

The fire took three hours to be brought under control on Saturday evening. A hundred firefighters and thirty machines were mobilized.

An investigation has been opened for arson, but the exact circumstances in which the fire broke out are still unclear. According to the first findings of the firefighters, it could be a garbage fire that would have spread to vehicles and then to the pavilion where the family lived.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Val-de-Marne.
