The apartment owners will have to show their credentials before renting their property in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne). The elected officials of the city council voted this Tuesday, May 12, 2022 on project to create a rental permit. Pierre Garzon, mayor (PCF) of the town, explains how this future permit will work.
“Protection for the tenant”
For the mayor, the implementation of this rental permit is intended to fight against unsanitary housing… But not only. “This will make it possible to carry out an inventory of the rented and rentable heritage in Villejuif, he indicates. It is a protection for the tenant, who will be able to live in a dwelling that meets the standards in force, but it is also a form of label for the responsible owner who plays the game”.
“The rental permit is a guarantee that in the face of the social and housing crisis we are experiencing, we can hunt down the profiteers of poverty”
The mayor intends since his installation to fight against real estate speculation on his territory. He also hopes to be able to put in place a framework for rents soon. This project is currently supported by the territory of Grand Orly Seine Bièvre but must be approved by all municipalities. However, currently, the elected officials of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges disapprove of the project.
Regarding the rental permit, Pierre Garzon believes that it will be primarily targeted at a certain category of housing: “We are setting it up for fairly old apartments, from before 2005, mainly T1 and T2”. The rental permit in Villejuif will generate job creations in a service specifically dedicated to this.
With the rental permit, the City also hopes to make owners aware of compliance with the standards. “There are owners who are more careful than others. Some are unaware of their obligations. Too many inhabitants live today in unworthy conditions”, concludes Pierre Garzon. The municipality hopes to set up the rental permit during the fall: “We are aiming for the start of the 2022 school year”.
