Alfa Romeo has been suffering again in recent years, although the new generation of its models has received critical acclaim, but in the store, Stelvio and Giulia remain below expectations. Now, however, the brand is part of the giant Stellantis concern, which has big plans with Alfa. And so her future is outlined again. Will it finally work out?
“Alfa Romeo will introduce a new model every year until 2026,” said Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato at a recent meeting with dealers. There have been several such promises since Alpha’s leadership in the past and have rarely been fulfilled, However, shortly after taking office, Imparato let it be heard that under his leadership, Alfa would only offer realistic plans.that will be able to meet.

The first novelty according to this strategy will be the long-awaited Tonale SUV. It was supposed to start selling long ago, but it was Imparato that postponed his arrival. He was reportedly dissatisfied with his plug-in hybrid system, so he had it further modified to meet the expectations. Now the management has repeatedly claimed that the compact SUV Tonale will be launched in March 2022.
For the year 2023, the smaller brother Tonale is preparing, the city SUV so far presented as Alfa Romeo Brennero. It is to be produced in the Polish Tychy plant, using the STLA Small platform as a basis, which is nothing more than a renamed CMP architecture from the PSA workshop, known for example from Peugeot 2008. The arrival of a purely electric version is almost confirmed, but it should still be complemented by conventional derivatives.

This news for the coming years is already in the stars, but there will certainly be a replacement for the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV, which is offered for 2024 and 2025, respectively, due to their life cycle. The last new innovation that could be prepared could be a sports model, which is traditionally connected with Alfa. In addition, Imparato has admitted in the past that he is a great lover of GTV, and so offers the return of a stylish coupe. On the other hand, such cars are marginal on the market today, so the arrival of a sports SUV instead of the classic coupe may not be ruled out.
The year 2027 will then start a new era of the brand. Alfa Romeo has already indicated that it intends to introduce exclusively electric cars from that year. However, this plan is only for Europe, North America and China. In the meantime, it will still sell its existing models with internal combustion engines, which will not disappear from the offer for some time to come. That is, if future emission standards allow.
Alfa Romeo’s detailed future strategy is to be unveiled at the beginning of 2022. The Stellantis Group intends to present the future of all its brands. The management of each of them is now working out a strategic plan for the next ten years, which is to ensure the future direction of the brand. As part of this strategy, there is also a clear distinction between the individual brands, as Stellantis includes 14 brands, merged by the PSA Group and the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group.
However, it has already been revealed that Fiat and Citroën are to become brands of affordable cars, while Peugeot and Opel / Vauxhall will occupy the mainstream position and Jeep will logically focus on the SUV. DS, Alfa Romeo and Lancia will be premium brands, DS will offer the French avant-garde, Alfa sports style and Lancia Italian elegance. Maserati will be at the top of the hierarchy, while Chrysler, Dodge and Ram will be oriented towards the American market.
