On average, there are 30,000 passages in the rue du General de Gaulle. A veritable windfall of potential customers for Vaima businesses. A center that is about to change its face with the arrival of new brands.
“The covid period has freed up some spaces. Here on the waterfront was Tahiti Nui Travel, at the back of the building we had the Concorde cinema. And so it created opportunities for redevelopment, explains Philippe Vasseur, president of the company that owns the Vaima Center. We’re going to be welcoming Burger King to the waterfront soon and a lot of other spaces so yes it’s in the making but at the same time the whole waterfront (in front of the Retro restaurant, editor’s note) must be redeveloped and that is the jurisdiction of the territory.«
Two tenders had been launched by the former government to redevelop the area. The file is now in the hands of the new leaders. The wait does not prevent new investors from taking their place in the shopping center, at the same time recording the departure of former managers. This is the case of Maryse Dagorne, at the head of a snack bar for four years.
« As I am almost 70 years old, it is time that I leave my place to young people, I have done my part. So it will be taken over by Fournil Haut bois. […] I think it’s not bad, the sun is shining for everyone. People like to have choices.«
And choice, they should have since other spaces are still available for rent. Enough to breathe new life into the center of the Vaima…
